Dongbu Corporaiton, which has stably grown through domestic construction projects, penetrated the Middle Eastern markets faster than other construction companies in Korea, and started new businesses in Korea with foreign currencies earned from the Middle East. It settled its business sectors in three main fields - construction/transportation/services, manufacturing, and finances/insurance, and purchased shares of Samcheok Industry, Hanmi Cotton Company, and Hankook Car Insurance (presently known as Dongbu Insurance). Dongbu then solidified its foundation to expand into steel works and chemicals, general transportation, and insurance. It purchased the incompetent Samcheok Industry, which had been a remnant company from the Japanese colonization, specialized in producing line nitrogen and carbide, and converted it into a specialized company for alloy steel. Dongbu Express purchased Daeyoung Industry, Busan Transportation, and Hanmi Cotton Industry as a general transportation company to lay the groundwork for its penetration into cargo transportation, storage, container yarding, and forwarding businesses.

Thus, Dongbu is expanding its businesses to key industries that contributed to national economies, and to privatized financial sectors, rather than simply expanding its business sectors.
