In January 1995, Dongbu declared the Second Foundation to become the world’s most recognized company in the 21st century. For this purpose, Dongbu has organized its secondary businesses and integrated related businesses for a total reformation of its structures and concentrated its business capacity on future-oriented businesses to reinforce the professionalism of major industries and quality-based administration.
Dongbu Steel established its groundwork as a cold-rolled steel company with the world’s lowest unit price after the foundation of the Asanman plant, which has the world’s most ultra modern equipment. In chemicals, Dongbu purchased Hannong Co. Ltd., a pesticide producer, to stabilize its position as Korea’s leading company in agricultural chemicals, including pesticides and seedlings, besides the existing petrochemicals, fertilizers, and fine chemicals, and to lay the groundwork to penetrate into the bioengineering field, a future-oriented industry. Dongbu Electronics advanced its future-oriented growth by successfully penetrating into the non-memory semiconductor business. In the finance and insurance fields, Dongbu Insurance has been solid as one of Korea’s three major insurance companies, and successfully established its basis and framework in all aspects, from life insurance, securities, and trust investment to savings banks and capitals.
