2007 proved to be a difficult year that demanded utmost efforts from all of us in order to cope with the multitude of new challenges presented to our Group. However, we have successfully navigated our way through these difficult times, avoiding potential crises along the way. This is entirely thanks to the hard work and steadfast dedication of every member of the Dongbu family.

Our country shall now continue its efforts for ascension toward the world league of advanced nations in terms of economy as well as judicial process, cultural standards and way of living. In line with this, enterprises and entrepreneurs must now bring up to global standards the overall management infrastructure such as human resources, management systems and corporate culture. They shall also innovate their businesses and products to such standards in order to sustain continuous growth and profitability in a world of constant change.

We at Dongbu must aggressively pursue advanced standards, globalization and the satisfaction of our customers. We must fully implement our advance management systems. We must bolster the globalization of our talented personnel. And we must permeate these practices throughout every facet of our business operations.

Now, as we traverse the threshold of the New Year, I ask all of you to join me in adopting three resolutions to propel us forward in the earnest endeavor to realize our mission of becoming a leading world-class enterprise with the greatest competitive edge.


We have streamlined Dongbu's three Business Areas of Manufacturing, Finance and Service into Five Business Domains: Total Financing; Construction, Development & Logistics; Steel, Metals & Environment; Semiconductors & Robotics; Food Products, Agriculture & Biotechnology. We are committed to realize the greatest competitive edge and the highest expertise across the five domains operating in the global market.

To better embrace globalization, modernization and the ever-increasing rate of change in the current corporate environment, we must constantly be examining and reexamining each business domain from an increasingly vast array of different perspectives.

Indeed, the global corporate environment is in a constant state of rapid changes. To illustrate these changes, one needs to look no further than the ever-expanding worldwide influence of financial capital, the innovation and industrial services spawned from IT development, the strategic significance of energy and the environment, and the rapid ascension of China and Eastern European countries as major players in the global economy. Consequently, it is with this current corporate climate in mind that we at Dongbu have been, and must continue to be, pursuing growth and innovation so as to best position ourselves to thrive in this global business environment.

Exemplifying Dongbu's pursuit of growth and innovation is the recent expansion into the non-memory semiconductor business, a bold move we believe instrumental to national competitiveness. We have recently broken ground for the construction of the world's most technologically advanced electric arc furnace steel works, in addition to organizing the expansion of our existing iron alloy business into a top-tier global competitor. We are also strategically putting forth the best efforts to become the most innovative company with regard to the environment, food and biotechnology sectors, which will prove to be strategic future industries for our Group. We have also been positioning ourselves as the best Total Financial Service Provider in Korea. We at Dongbu have been, and must continue to be, incessantly striving to achieve the highest growth in every business domain by focusing on state-of-art products & services, getting ever closer to Customers.

Every business unit in each business domain must establish innovative business strategies and reconstruct its business portfolios. I should make it a real point that it is imperative for all of us to firmly commit ourselves to obtaining new customers and innovative technology, and to securing and properly training the best people, who are the core of all successful business developments.


New Dongbu Management System is the key infrastructure for our ascension to an advanced Group with advanced standards in the global markets. We have been assiduous in the development and implementation of our new management system, centered around Mission and 5 Directions for Innovation, Performance System, Six Sigma, Digitalization, CXO System, Innovative Business Plan, Standard, Three Innovation Meetings and Coach System. We must now actively implement this new system in every aspect of our business operations, ensuring higher performance.

Innovative Business Plan as the back-bone of new management system shall be based on Standard, containing vision, stretched goals and proper strategies, creative ideas, and great passion. Standard is an objective level securing sustainable growth in competitive business environments, generally accepted anywhere by anyone. It is a consensus built up through an autonomous participation of all Dongbu people and is the key to an effective leadership.

Six Sigma and Digitalization will generate a lot of Best Practices and High Performances out of Innovative Business Plans.


Dongbu's history is that of Entrepreneurial Spirit since its foundation 40 years ago. True to this, we are proud to have abandoned the wide roads that others have chosen, for the narrow but loyal ones to serving the country with industries.
The Entrepreneurial Spirit to which I now refer is to do something unique and something different in a unique way so that its value may be changed or transformed. Innovation is a means to realize this Entrepreneurial Spirit and an activity enabling the existing resources to create new value. Innovation must be goal-oriented and the goals must be set big and high.

I do hope each and everyone at Dongbu should firmly arm himself or herself with this Entrepreneurial Spirit and Passion for Innovation as we take even greater strides toward becoming the standard-bearer in all of our business endeavors.

I sincerely appreciate your steadfast diligence and loyalty amidst the pains for enhancing our business structure and establishing our new management systems.
I am confident that once our new management systems take root, Dongbu will grow to be a top-tier global enterprise.
I am wholeheartedly looking forward to seeing an ample amount of Best Practices in action, creating excellent results in 2008 and propelling many of our businesses to new heights of world-best competitiveness. As we move forward in 2008, Dongbu will witness great performers with great rewards.
